The Vasque (cauldron) of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games^TM

The 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games were a huge success. All those involved in these Games are keen to extend it through a multiple legacy. The symbol of this mobilization to continue the Olympic and Paralympic success will be the ascent of the Vasque in the summer in Paris until the Los Angeles Games. Around the Vasque, popular fervor will live again, and with it, the desire for a more inclusive, more sporting, more sustainable society. This cauldron, at the heart of the legacy, will give it its energy.

This is why the President of the Republic has decided with the Mayor of Paris and also the CNOSF, and after the COJOP, Alpes 2030, as well as all the stakeholders to extend the Vasque until the Los Angeles Games of 2028. The Vasque should demonstrate that the Olympic and Paralympic spirit is still alive and kicking in Paris, and that the legacy of the Games is mobilizing everyone.

To achieve this, the Vasque will once again be installed in the Jardin des Tuileries, exactly where it will be for the summer of 2024 – a nod to history, since it is a tribute to the first flight in a hydrogen-filled gas balloon from the Tuileries in 1783. For three summers, it will take to the skies of Paris in the evenings from June 21, the Fête de la Musique, to September 14, the Fête du Sport. It will enable French and foreign visitors alike to prolong the magic of 2024.

The epicenter of the Games, the Domaine national du Louvre et des Tuileries was the preferred venue for some of the competition’s most memorable moments, which were reflected in a rich and festive program. A genuine dialogue was established between the Louvre and the Olympic Games: the torch relay lit up the museum’s halls, its emblematic architecture was at the heart of the opening and closing ceremonies, and some of the events passed through the grounds. The return of the Vasque to the Tuileries Gardens celebrates the enduring Olympic spirit, sealing the union of the Louvre and the Games around the same ambition of sharing, openness and accessibility.

All the partners in the Olympic and Paralympic Vasque were delighted with this gift to the world. Mathieu LEHANNEUR, the Vasque’s creator and designer, once again lends his visionary talent to its technical prowess. For him, the Vasque was a symbol of enchantment and creativity in 2024. We had to prevent it from becoming a relic. On the contrary, bringing it back to the skies of Paris means that the emotion is once again palpable, and part of a sustainable and desirable future.
